Kane Laks, MD (he/him), is from Hannibal, MO, the boyhood home of Mark Twain and setting of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Kane studied Biology and French at Saint Louis University and earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Medicine, where he explored his interest in underserved and rural populations through extensive involvement in the student-run free clinic and rural rotations including at the Menominee Tribal Clinic in Keshena, WI. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at UW-Madison, where he was based at the Belleville Clinic and participated in the Rural Health Equity Track (RHET). During his academic fellowship, he will be continuing his scholarly work from residency evaluating RHET and UW’s other rural family medicine programs while also expanding his teaching, leadership skills, and high-risk obstetrics skills. After fellowship, he will be returning to the Menominee Tribal Clinic to practice full-spectrum family medicine. In his free time, Kane enjoys cooking Indian food and exploring Madison with his girlfriend, playing the clarinet and saxophone, learning more about the French language and culture, following the Oscars, and reading fantasy and thriller novels.
