Medical Student Sridhar Reddy spent four years working on the research team of Alex Adams, MD, PhD studying aspects of obesity and overweight in American Indian children from three Wisconsin Indian Reservations.

Over the course of his work, Sridhar spent time collecting data at the three Reservations. He then analyzed the relationship of breastfeeding to obesity in Wisconsin American Indian children ages 3 to 8 and found that breastfeeding had a significant reduction effect on obesity, as well as increasing the weight of low birth weight children.

Sridhar's work won the Department of Family Medicine's Sheckler Award for student research and First Place in the student oral competition for best clinical research paper at the AMSA (American Medical Student Association) national meeting. He is currently writing a journal article on this topic with Dr. Adams for the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

In recognition of Sridhar's work, the Department of Family Medicine has honored him with the NAPCRG Student Family Medicine/Primary Care Research Award, sponsored by the North American Primary Care Research Group. Each Family Medicine Department may choose one student per year for this honor. Congratulations Sridhar!
