Thank you to all who came from around the State to celebrate with colleagues at the Department of Family Medicine 2007 Marc Hansen Lecture and John H. Renner Wisconsin Idea Award Dinner that took place at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center on Thursday, November 8.

James E. Davis, MD, MS introduced Dennis Breen, MD who was the 2007 recipient of the Marc Hansen Lectureship Award. The Department of Family Medicine annually honors a junior faculty member who has made a substantial contribution to the education of students and residents. This award honors the contributions of Marc Hansen, MD, who, as founder of one of the nation’s first Family Medicine residencies and an important voice in the development of primary care, has served as a teacher, mentor and friend to generations of family physicians in the State of Wisconsin. Dr. Breen’s captivating and motivating presentation was entitled, “A Monster in the Closet: Experience and Learning.”

Rick McClaflin, MD introduced Bill Ihlenfeldt, PhD, who is retiring as president of the Chippewa Valley Technical College as the 2007 John H. Renner Wisconsin Idea Award recipient. The John H. Renner, MD Wisconsin Idea Award is in recognition of a citizen of the State of Wisconsin who has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to Family Medicine and the health needs of the people of Wisconsin as envisioned by Dr. John H. Renner. Award recipients must have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to facilitating provision of care by family physicians, especially in underserved areas of Wisconsin. Dr. Ihlenfeldt gave an invigorating presentation entitled, “Partnerships in Education” in which his administrative leadership emphasizes partnerships with public and private organizations to meet workforce needs. His vision and leadership are responsible for laying the foundation of a partnership with the Eau Claire Family Medicine Residency.

I would also like to thank William Scheckler, MD for serving as our DFM photographer throughout the evening. View our photo gallery showcasing our award recipients and colleagues who attended the award ceremony.
