Updates from Information Technology Services
Michelle Wood, MS
Web Site
The new external web site launched on October 12, and the feedback continues to be positive. Given that we are in the midst of the residency recruitment process, here are a few web highlights provided by our Department of Family Medicine web master/architect, Jim Witkins:
- Approximately 30% of the traffic visiting our Department’s main residency page originates from the American Medical Association web site.
- Approximately 40% of the traffic visiting our main residency page comes from within the state of Wisconsin.
- A pilot project using Google’s search engine optimization has been implemented to attract more visitors to the Department’s main residency web page.
- Several recent resident candidates provided unsolicited feedback indicating they liked the DFM web site best among other residency program web sites.
- Visit the main residency page at http://www.fammed.wisc.edu/residency.
Novell File Services Changes
To reduce duplications of technology between DFM and University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation, Eric Schoville and Kathy McCain are collaborating with UMWF to move your Novell files to the UWMF Novell servers.
- What this project means to you is that some additional drive letters will be added to your existing Novell drive letters. Specific information and instructions relevant to you will be provided prior to any changes impacting you.
- Files for staff at Wingra and Northeast have been moved to UWMF Novell servers with the remaining DFM sites scheduled to be completed by February, 2008.
- One of the benefits of this initiative is that DFM ITS staff time previously used to manage Novell services will be used to enhance video conferencing services, offer end user technology trainings and provide ITS orientations for new faculty and staff.
- Please see the “Novell File Services Migration” article for more information about the Novell file services migration to UWMF.
Statewide Grand Rounds
- October 22 was the second Statewide Grand Rounds with ten DFM/UWMF sites participating through the use of video conferencing.
- The topic, "Decision-Making Capacity,” was co-presented by Melissa Stiles, MD, Bill Schwab, MD, and Ken Kushner, Ph.D.
- Statewide Grand Rounds sessions are streamed in real time, and available for viewing after the video conference at http://www.uwex.edu/ics/stream/fammed/
- The next Statewide Grand Rounds will be held January 22, 2008. For more information about use of video conference equipment, please talk with Kathy McCain, kathy.mccain@fammed.wisc.edu or Matt Fleming, matt.fleming@fammed.wisc.edu
