A Healthy Octoberfest
Contributors: Patty EmerImagine Appleton's main street, College Avenue, packed with over 100,000 visitors and over a mile of food, music and fun. That is Appleton's Octoberfest held each year on the last weekend of September.
For the past 27 years, Octoberfest has been bringing people to downtown Appleton in the spirit of community pride and celebration. Over 400 vendor and exhibitor stands offer a wide variety of ethnic and traditional foods and arts and crafts and provides a fundraising venue to many local not-for-profit organizations.
It has become an annual tradition for the Fox Valley Residents to staff a first-aid and blood pressure check booth as a community service. Residents take turns staffing the booth during the day long event. They provide first aid and free blood pressure checks, hand out health information, clinic magnets, brochures and make community contacts.
