Luke Fortney M.D., Asst. Professor »

Luke Fortney completed his medical school training and family medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He then completed the University of Wisconsin's two-year Integrative Family Medicine fellowship that included an Associate Fellowship through the University of Arizona's Program in Integrative Medicine. He is currently an Asst. Professor in the Dept. of Family Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2004, he became board certified in Holistic Medicine through the AHMA/ABHM. He is involved in projects related to the education and healing application of meditation and spirituality in medicine. His experience includes mindfulness meditation, AMSA LIGHT (HEART) and Global Medicine education at the Institute of Noetic Sciences in California, Centering Prayer at St. Benedict's Monastery in Colorado, Kriya Yoga through SRF in California, GWish program for spirituality in medicine, and Prolotherapy through the Hackett-Hemwall Foundation. Luke's particular areas of interest include various meditation retreats every year, travel, playing the didgeridoo, environmental sustainability, and social justice and responsibility.

Jill Mallory completed her medical school training at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and family medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently she is an associate fellow in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona-Tucson and a clinical fellow of Integrative Medicine at the University of Wisconsin. In 2008, she became board certified in Holistic Medicine through the AHMA/ABHM. She is involved in projects related to breastfeeding promotion, home visiting, natural childbirth, integrative care of the mother/child dyad, and integrative women's health. She will be taking the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners in the summer of 2009. Jill's particular areas of interest include herbal medicine, nutrition, natural parenting, prevention, feminist women's healthcare, cooking, and raising her daughter.
Lucille Marchand MD, BSN, Professor »

Lu Marchand is a professor of family medicine at the UW School of Medicine. She received a BA in sociology from Brown University and did qualitative research. She subsequently obtained a BS in nursing from the Creighton University Accelerated Nursing Program in Omaha, Nebraska. During her seven years as a coronary care nurse and emergency department nurse, she completed pre-medical studies at the University of California-Berkeley. She received her MD degree from the University of California- San Francisco in 1987 and completed her family practice residency at the University of Connecticut in 1990. She also completed a fellowship in 1991 at the University of Connecticut in faculty development. Her fellowship included training in family therapy and qualitative research of infant feeding practices. Following fellowship, she joined the DFM in November 1991. She was a faculty at UW Health Belleville for 14 years, and now is the clinical director of integrative oncology at the UW Paul P Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center and at UW Health Oncology both in Madison, and a physician consultant with the UW Integrative Medicine Program. She is the course director for the Healer's Art Medical Student elective. She is coordinator of the end of life curriculum and associate coordinator of the behavioral science curriculum, research on primary care and behavioral issues, and teaching residents and medical students. Her interests include family systems, the doctor-patient relationship, integrative medicine, end of life care, spirituality, ethics, health professional well-being, and humanities in medicine. She is board-certified in family medicine, palliative medicine and holistic medicine.

Rian entered the human race in Rochester, Minnesota, during a cold winter in 1971. After medical school at Temple University School of Medicine, he completed a family medicine residency in Madison, Wisconsin in 2005. He then completed the University of Wisconsin's two-year Integrative Family Medicine fellowship that included an Associate Fellowship through the University of Arizona's Program in Integrative Medicine. Rian is board certified in both family medicine and holistic medicine and is currently an Assistant Professor in the University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine. He enjoys pursuing his passions of sustainability & ecological sustainable medicine, integrative medicine, and health justice.

After medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, Dave completed a family practice residency in Greeley, Colorado. He spent the next five years in rural practice as one of two physicians staffing a 14 bed hospital in Driggs, Idaho. As Medical Director for Grand Targhee Ski resort, he developed an interest in sports medicine and received his CAQ in 1999. Dave completed a two-year fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona from 1999-2001. He joined the UW Department of Family Medicine in 2001 where he teaches medical students, residents and fellows. His primary care medical practice is at Odana Atrium in Madison and his Integrative Medicine consultative practice is at UW Research Park in Madison. He is the Medical Director for UW Health Integrative Medicine, Editor for the text, Integrative Medicine, and co-editor of the Textbook of Family Medicine. Dave is board certified in family medicine, integrative-holistic medicine and sports medicine. He is also certified in Interactive Guided Imagery.
Adam Rindfleisch M.Phil., M.D., Asst. Professor »

Adam was born and raised in Arco, Idaho. He graduated from The College of Idaho in 1993 with an Honors BA in chemistry, zoology, and religion. A Rhodes Scholar, he completed a Masters of Philosophy at Oxford in Comparative Social Research, focusing on how the healing systems of India and Great Britain have influenced one another. After receiving his M.D. degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he completed a Family Medicine residency and two-year Academic Integrative Medicine Fellowship at University of Wisconsin Madison. Through an Integrative Family Medicine grant, he completed the University of Arizona Integrative Medicine Fellowship. Adam is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Holistic Medicine. He sees patients at the Odana Atrium and the University of Wisconsin Integrative Medicine Clinic. Adam oversees the Academic Integrative Medicine (AIM) fellowship and directs the University of Wisconsin Hospital Family Medicine Service. He co-directs the Aware Medicine curriculum for Family Medicine Residents. Adam's particular areas of interest in Integrative Medicine include dietary supplements, spirituality, and shamanism/energy medicine. He enjoys travel, reading, writing, time with family, and anything that involves the outdoors, including trying to keep up with his two-acre garden.
